When the modelling industry took a twist!

The world is moving towards androgyny.
Accept it!
And Twiggy should be credited for bringing the boyish look out of her closet and into the open!
And then everyone followed!

Julie Andrews in "Victor Victoria"

Barbara Streisand in "The Year of Living Dangerously

Cate Blanchett

. And there are a lot of other examples!!!!
(And if you haven't seen the above-mentioned movies, then maybe you're still living in the Stone Age!! Go check 'em out!)

And then came the hits like Grace Jones, Linda Evangelista, FREJA BEHA (The best thing the world has!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), Agneyss Deyn, Tilda Swinton.
These guys (I means girls/ladies) have the turned the equation of the modelling industry, in such a way, that the designers and mortals alike had to reckon with it.
And then came Andrej Pejic. When people like Freja Beha and Deyn, had taken the girly road!
Well, ummmm. to be politically correct, Andrej started a whole new revolution amongst the modelling industry. Before this it was the girls trying to achieve the boyish look. And Andrej turned the whole equation upside down!!
Lets see who this person is!

Andrej Pejic is a 19-year-old model with a slender figure, flowing blonde hair and a face that boasts full, pillow lips and high cheekbones. Pejic has Cindy Crawford’s bone structure and Kate Moss’ body. You are probably thinking Pejic must be a pretty young female.
Pejic is actually an Australian male with Serbian roots. He is taking the fashion industry by storm, creating great excitement among fashion designers and editors and appearing on the runways of London, Paris and Tokyo in shows for Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Paul Smith to Raf Simons.
He debuted in Jean-Paul Gaultier’s Spring/Summer 2011 in Paris, and since then has appeared in three consecutive spreads in French Vogue, Italian Vogue, and Turkish Vogue. He became the face of Martyn Ball Fall/Winter 2010, alongside Sid Ellisdon. He is the latest face of Marc Jacobs’ spring 2011 campaign and will appear in Gaultier’s spring ads alongside supermodel Karolina Kurkova.
Have I created enough mystery and hype over this????
This is how he looks like...

Does he look like what you expected him to look like?
When I first saw him on the Runway of Gaultier, i took him/her (back then i though he was a she) to be just another model, getting immortalized in Gaultier's art! And thought what a lucky bitch#$%@ she was, getting to be with the legend. And only wished that it was me (but obviously it was only my heart speaking, because i was too ashamed to even verbally express my thought, considering I'm from the midget category!! )

Little did I know, that she was a he.
Then I saw him again on the runway for Galliano, rocking a vest and underwear.

(he looked a little like Karlie Kloss, so that left me a whole lot of confusion for some 1 hour, maybe more, and the site mentioned his name as Andrej, and i was almost certainly sure that it was Miss Kloss, but the again that was NOT her body.)
And the it struck me! I found out this whosoever Andrej's bio.
And he turned out to be a boy of mere 19 years. Imagine my excitement (me being a huge fan of the androgynous revolution!!)
Just a few years ago, his chances of making it in modeling would have been almost non-existent. His ”look” is the effeminate opposite of the lean, handsome, muscle-ripped male models more typically cast for ad campaigns and fashion runways since the late 1980s.

Pejic insists that for all his physical differences, he was never bullied by his peers—and instead felt only the he was the subject of “curiosity and attention.” “A lot of macho guys did think of me as a girl,” he says of his high school years. However, because of his androgynous looks, he got ‘a lot of free drinks’, he said.
In many ways, his career has been just that: capitalizing on curiosity. In 2009, Pejic found his way to Chadwick Models in Melbourne, where he was interviewed and instantly signed. “I knew at the time we had someone potentially very big on our hands,” says Matthew Anderson, manager of Chadwick’s Melbourne office.

The perfect complexion, bedroom eyes and Greek statue-like features, coupled with all the right poses, and with a nose for scenting a camera as highly developed as a tiger senses prey, all suggests total femininity, even if his long blonde hair has been teased into a French pleat, and resembles what he calls "granny chic." In every respect, from height to ironing-board chest, he is a "sister" to the hundreds of androgynous, but female models who man the catwalks.
He says he feels he looks like "a 1960's housewife who ran away to Hollywood", or else Dusty Springfield, "yes, eternally."
"It's how I feel and it feels good," he said of the rocket-propelled career that has seen him go from being talent-spotted in a fruit market in Melbourne, Australia - where he grew up - to global, if transitory fame.

Fashion has embraced the gender-bending model—but Pejic is the leader of a new gender fluidity in fashion, in which traditional male and female attitudes are starting to matter less. It’s a message that is being slowly adapted industry-wide—and is resonating with consumers.
The fashion industry is warming to gender neutrality, and transsexual models and spreads are finding their way into the mainstream. The New York Times said that “2010 will be remembered as the year of the transsexual.” For Pejic’s part, this translates to steady work. For one thing, he can be cast in editorials and ads as either a woman or a man.

As of April, 2011 he ranks no.11 on the models.com Top 50 Male Models list, and he was ranked no.98 in FHM magazine's 100 Sexiest Women in the World 2011, an 'award' that caused controversy with a homophobic subtext that was removed from FHM's website.

Pejic is creating huge waves in the fashion industry, but it’s evident that something about him is endearing him with the general public, as well. He’s developed a large online following, with many fan sites dedicated to him.
